ION Solar is the largest privately-owned residential solar company in the country.

ION Solar, LLC is a solar energy design and installation firm headquartered in Provo, Utah. ION Solar was created in 2017 from the merger of two other Utah solar energy companies, Vision Solar of Provo and Zing Solar of Draper. Following this consolidation of assets, ION Solar instantly became the largest privately-owned solar energy contractor in the country.

The CEO of ION Solar is Jimmy Slemboski and its President is David Rasmussen. Slemboski is a trained physicist who founded Zing Solar in 2012, while David Rasmussen and his brother Matt co-founded Vision Solar in 2013. Including installations completed when the two companies were separate, ION Solar, Inc. has finished more than 12,000 residential solar projects. ION Solar has not been as active in the commercial sector, but it has still completed more than 50 projects for businesses of various sizes.

With a focus on providing premium products, ION Solar acquires its solar components from a variety of sources. Its highest-quality solar panels are manufactured by Trina Solar, while its best inverters are supplied by Enphase. Both companies manufacture their solar equipment in China.

ION Solar offers in-house financing options for their clients, in the form of 12-year loans or 20-year loans with no upfront payments required. They also install residential solar energy systems under Power Purchase Agreements, which allow clients to lease ION solar panels for 25 years.

While Vision Solar and Zing Solar concentrated primarily on the solar market in Utah, ION Solar has expanded operations into multiple states. They now have affiliated offices in seven states: Utah, Idaho, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Nevada and Virginia.

Fast to get the panels on and then nothing to get them hooked up for months. Noone works there long enough to get anything done. An absolute fraud of a company.

I work in a building with ion solar training and they are rude as all get out. Cussing people out and acting as if the rules of social interaction don’t apply to them. I cannot imagine allowing someone I was training to act like that at or near my place of business and then allowing them to be in customer service!

TL;DR - Enrique Guzman (sales) promised incentives but did not deliver on these incentives until I reached out to corporate to complain 60+ days after panel installation. Enrique also misled us on PGE billing after installation (details below). Project team was helpful. Installation team was courteous and respectful. Overall comms were pretty messy.

Our interaction with Ion Solar started in Nov’2022 with a D2D sales rep knocking on our door to pique our interest in solar. From there, we scheduled an appointment with their salesperson Enrique Guzman. Enrique showed up and presented us the “potential savings” of installing solar and how it will essentially pay for itself as it will offset our electric bill entirely. He also mentioned that we would be put on a 12-month billing cycle with PGE after installation. Neither of these points turned out to be true.

I asked a good friend of mine if he would be interested in going in on solar together to see if we can get a better deal from Enrique. Enrique offered us each a $1,000 check and $300 Nike/HOKA gift cards to be sent upon installation if we signed up with him. We thought it was a good deal so we both signed up. Mind you, these incentives were verbal agreements; none of this was on paper.

Fast forward to Jan’2023, panels are installed. My friend and I reached out to Enrique Guzman for the promised incentives and were both met with a short “yup on it”. This went on for 30+ days. We would reach out to check on the progress of these incentives and Enrique would either send a “will these sent out ASAP” or straight up ghost us. Having been fed up, we reach out to Ion Solar corporate. Thomas Nevins hears our story and sends an email out to Enrique and cc’ing us both on it.

Enrique Guzman responds to the email with a “yup on it”. To our surprise, we received the $1,000 via Zelle a week later. However, the $300 Nike/HOKA gift cards were still nowhere to be found. At this point, we’re 60+ days past installation and we were still missing the last half of our promised incentives. So I finally submitted my post-installation survey, giving them a score of 1/10. Enrique IMMEDIATELY responds by sending both my friend and I the promised $300 gift cards.

Why did it have to take so long and so many different parties to get Enrique Guzman to fulfill his promise to us? Furthermore, why did he have to lie to us about the 12-month billing cycle? This was a complete bait-and-switch.

Had we known that he was going to treat us like this after signing, we would NEVER have signed with Ion Solar. And to be honest, both my friend and I are struggling with buyer’s remorse after this experience.

We would NOT recommend Ion Solar.

If I could give this company -stars I would. I would start by saying they lie from the beginning. They sell you a beautiful picture till they put the panels up which by the way they rush you. To then no communication at all, the Sale rep which he calls himself the manager Brandon will not answer any of the phone calls, and if we contact 1888 no answer either. The panel are up and failed inspection now we are pending god knows what now since no one’s have the decency to update us, the worst part is how the financing department works which is absurd that you would start charging a customer for panels that haven’t passed inspection and service is not even functional. So yep our automated payment starts in January with no idea when panels will be working and we were promised 3 months of service before we started payments. So here we are stuck with a no-answer company gosht and no service. STAY AWAY FROM ION WORST MISTAKE EVER!!!!!! I already posted on our neighborhood Facebook page since is currently been built to not do business with them!

Still waiting for panels for 5 weeks after being lied to about a city code of have a ciderblock foundation and can’t do the project. ( permits ready at city hall) contractor shows up and leaves. Tried on multiple times to contact manager for over a week. Ever contact is recorded so I suggest you do the same (sounds shady). It’s like they might take you to court if you drop the contract (change your mind). This tells me they’ve been to court before. My review in based upon personal but it looks like I’m not the only person with bad review. Look at the BBB. Same reviews.
